AH HI FRIENDS!

In today’s episode I go on an 11 mile run during Hurricane Hilary, take you through a full body lift and also talk about how I combine running and lifting aka what has been popularized as hybrid training. I honestly feel like “hybrid training” has become so popular/trendy because most people DO enjoy both lifting and running. On social media, it can often feel like you have to choose… oh you like lifting? Well then you must be a body builder or a powerlifter. Oh you like running? You probably grew up playing soccer and run 4 marathons a year. In reality though, I think there are MANY people who exist in between those 2 extremes and find joy in both types of movement. Its fun to feel strong and lift heavy weights. Its also fun to run fast, far, and long.

As I continue to train for my first marathon, it’s been important to me to continue strength training even if its only 2-3 times per week. I feel my strength training background has helped keep me healthy and injury free while getting more into running. In this video, I talk about my personal and professional approach to hybrid training and outline some questions you can ask yourself to help find YOUR happy balance.

I created this free program as a way to help the many people out there who love both lifting and running and just aren’t quite sure how to combine the two. This plan is geared towards to beginner to intermediate runner, and it assumes that you can sustain a walk for at least 30 minutes. It is a progressive run/walk program and the amount of running gradually increases each week to minimize risk of injury.

It’s been really cool to receive messages over the past few months from people who’ve signed up for their first 5k, 10k or half marathon and to hear that I played a role in those decisions. It takes courage to try something new and especially to sign up for that first race! If you’re someone who is running their first race this fall, I hope you know I’m proud of you for getting outside your comfort zone. It’s the only way to grow!
