Do you know how to build a stronger core? It isn’t sit ups or planks – it is from the base up! Do you know how to activate the base of your core? If you can, can you hold it for 5 seconds while breathing normally?
In order to create a strong core and global stability, we need to activate this muscle. You can perform 100 sit ups, plank forever, and still not have this muscle properly activated.
Start on your back with your legs hooked. This causes your larger abdominals to relax and allow you to feel this muscle with your fingertips (aka palpate – walk your fingers inwards from your hip bones towards your center line of your body).
The benefits of having a strong core:
1 – A strong core improves balance and stability.
2 – Makes physical activities easier by providing a strong base and stabilization.
3- Can help you progress towards your overall health and fitness goals.
4 – Improved forced production with movement.
5 – Will assist in toning your abdominal muscles.
6 – Improved postural control. Your transverse abdominus works as an internal girdle and supports your posture.
Let’s build a stronger core one day at a time!
We will have 1 base builder (add on mini circuit that progresses each week), 1 flexibility series, and 1-2 full body functional core circuit.
You will need a core ball for week 1!
