Judging from the few behind-the-scenes Instagram posts Taylor Swift has shared, I assumed she practiced for her sets predominantly in Free People athleisure, compression leggings, and the like. But when the 34-year-old world-famous superstar released a decidedly raw music video for “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart,” she shared glimpses of her full rehearsal wardrobe — and it’s a mixed bag.

While there are notable items like the editor-approved form-correcting sports bra and whimsical lavender Popflex tennis skirt that might as well be Swift-branded, my eyes widened at one acid-wash denim dress with a zipper down the bodice. I scrambled for the space bar to prompt a quick pause. Was that stretch denim with some sort of polyester-elastane blend? Is that thing . . . an exercise dress? And sue me for even dreaming of working out baring that much cleavage!

“Within the first 24 hours, the dress sold over 400 units, and storewide sales and traffic doubled.”

But then the release for Wiskii’s Beyond Denim Dress ($139) landed in my inbox and promptly answered all my questions. The design is part of the brand’s Denim Series, which is unique in its comfortable fit and has indeed been a customer favorite, even before Swift’s debut. A Wiskii brand rep confirmed to PS that she presumably purchased it under a pseudonym, since there’s no record of her order — and she also seemingly threw the brand’s High Waisted A-Line Tennis Skirt in her cart as well, since it too can be spotted in the video. “We were all very surprised to see that she was wearing it,” Wiskii told PS, confirming that the site saw a tremendous increase in traffic and orders for the denim dress and scallop skirt following the release of the music video. “Within the first 24 hours, the dress sold over 400 units, and storewide sales and traffic doubled. The unexpected feature in the video boosted our online conversions by an incredible 17 times.”

Being the matching workout set enthusiast that I am — preferably in sports bra and leggings form — I was curious what it’d be like to exercise in a workout dress. Of course, this is not just any workout dress, but a Swift-approved workout dress, and a denim one at that. Would I actually be able to pull off a rowing bootcamp and cycling session in this mini? ‘I’m a real tough kid, I can handle my sh*t,’ I thought to myself — here goes nothing!

Ahead, re-watch the “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart” video to see the athleisure piece in action, then learn how Swift’s Wiskii denim workout dress really holds up in the gym.

What I Like About the Wiskii Beyond Denim Dress

As Swift exhibits in the “ICDIWABH” video, this workout dress certainly is flattering and movable. The fact that so many shoppers have backed the notion, including myself, is a promising sign if you’re thinking about investing. I specifically loved the structure and compression that the zippered bodice delivered during my workout. Since the silhouette is A-line, it’s also airy and the garment itself is relatively lightweight.

As someone with a small chest (I’m a 34A), I was delightfully surprised by the notable lift the padding lent me, and I by no means felt like I was “falling out” of the U-shaped neckline during my workout. I was able to easily ride a bike, lift weights, and perform bodyweight moves with full coverage.

Is the Wiskii Beyond Denim Dress Comfortable For Working Out?

The dress is extremely comfortable — the material feels more comparable to jeggings (remember those?) than classic denim. The built-in biker shorts are also butter-soft and stretchy, making it easy to move. I will say that jumping on the rowing machine was a bit of a challenge. I had to tuck the hem of the skirt into the legs of the biker shorts in order to operate the equipment safely; otherwise the material would get stuck underneath the seat when I moved backwards. While I rate the comfort level 10/10, it’s important to be cognizant of just how you’ll be moving before you start your workout. Luckily, it’s easy enough to tuck away the hem of the skirt into the shorts if need be.

What to Consider Before Buying the Wiskii Beyond Denim Dress

Aside from the minor rowing snafu, this dress definitely does show sweat marks as your workout progresses. I exercised for about an hour at a medium intensity level (my heart rate didn’t raise above 130-140 bpm), and the material became visibly damp near the creases. However, the sweat stains dried quickly and the dress came out of a full washing cycle good as new one day later.

Unfortunately, this dress is not offered in extended sizes at this time, however, shoppers are encouraged to email or chat online with a Wiskii expert for size recommendations based on measurements. Since the dress is $139, it doesn’t qualify for free shipping, so you may just have to tack on that scallop skirt like Swift to receive that perk.
