In this video, I show you 5 simple steps on how to start working out at home. It’s not always the easiest thing to get started, but by following these 5 rules, you’ll be able to get up and running quickly… and build sustainable workout habits for the long-term!

Start Short (1:10)

The first step of the best workout routine for beginners is to start with short workouts. Kicking off with 20-30 minute sessions is ideal to get you into the grove and to figure out what types of exercises you enjoy, you’re good at, and that you can effectively build into your schedule and see the best results.

Pick Exercises You Love (2:38)

If you already have a little experience of working out, you may well know what types of exercises you gravitate towards. If you prefer to lifts weights and work on strength training, then do that. If endurance exercise like running or cycling is more you, build that into your workout routine. Whatever you enjoy, that will be the best place to start!

Focus On Form (3:48)

In successful workout routines for beginners as well as for advanced trainers, form is one of the most important things to place your focus on. Keeping good form during your exercises will lead to much better progress, an overall stronger body, and best of all, less injuries. When you start out, try to exercise in front of a mirror, or workout with a training buddy, so you can check your form and develop instinctive movement patterns, to stay safe.

Measure Your Results (4:50)

Whether it’s your body composition, your waist circumference, your 1 rep max, or your 1-mile PB run, you should measure your results, so you know you’re making progress later on. When you start out on a beginner workout routine for men at home, you should identify a couple of goals to achieve. Do you want to reach 10% body fat, or increase your 1-rep max on squats by 50 lbs? Whatever your aim, make sure you measure your results.

Do Compound Movements (6:48)

Whether you’re starting at-home workout routines for beginners to build muscle, or to lose fat, compound movements are going to be the most beneficial way of getting you to your end goal. Compound movements use multiple muscle groups, so use a lot of energy that burns fat. They also develop and grow stronger (with correct nutrition), giving you better muscle mass, strength, and definition.

So that’s how you can get started with a beginners workout routine, either at home or in the gym. Start slow, build momentum, and develop regular healthy habits to help you sustain a strong and healthy body… for you and your family!
