You might recognize eMjae Frazier’s last name — her sister, Margzetta, is a UCLA Bruin whose floor routines have gone viral (her Janet Jackson-themed performance is one recent example). Watch eMjae’s own floor routine above from the 2021 GK US Classic on May 22. She opens up with a massive double layout, hits beautiful leaps and jumps, and shows off elegant, eye-catching choreography to the beat-filled music.

eMjae was on USA Gymnastics’s 2019 to 2020 women’s junior national team, and she represented the US at the 2020 Friendship and Solidarity event in Tokyo under strict COVID-19 safety protocols. Now 17, she’s competing as a senior on the elite level, and she tied for 12th in the all-around this past Saturday. Gymnasts featured at the US Classic — the first meet back since the start of the pandemic for most athletes — were Simone Biles, Morgan Hurd, Jade Carey, Laurie Hernandez, and more (including 2008 Olympian Chellsie Memmel, who hadn’t competed in nine years!).

And that’s a wrap,” eMjae wrote on Instagram over the weekend. “next stop, champs,” she added, referring to Nationals in early June. Last December, eMjae, a New Jersey native, accepted a scholarship to the University of California, Berkeley, where she will join the Golden Bears gymnastics team. Margzetta, too, competed on the elite level before her UCLA collegiate gymnastics career. It runs in the family!
